Overview
Lake Manyara sits at the foot of the Rift Valley escarpment in northern Tanzania and is famous for its flamingo population, which can turn the lake pink at times of peak numbers. The lake is also home to large hippo pods and numerous waterbirds. The groundwater forest on its western shore, nourished by springs from the escarpment above, is a contrasting habitat to the open soda lake.
