Overview
The Great Ruaha River is the dominant waterway of Ruaha National Park and one of the most important wildlife corridors in East Africa, sustaining the park's enormous elephant population — the largest in Tanzania — along with huge buffalo herds, large prides of lion, and the highest density of greater kudu in Africa. During the dry season from June to October, animals concentrate in extraordinary numbers along the river's banks as surface water elsewhere disappears, making the Ruaha River frontage one of the best wildlife-viewing vantages on the continent.
