Overview
Songo Songo Island is a small coral island in the Indian Ocean off Tanzania's southern coast, historically significant as the site of the country's first major natural gas discovery. The island sits within the Songo Songo Archipelago, a chain of coral islands surrounded by excellent diving and snorkelling reefs, with humpback whales passing through from July to October. The island's fishing community maintains centuries-old Swahili seafaring traditions.
