Overview
Chwaka Bay is a broad, shallow tidal bay on Zanzibar's east coast, enclosed by mangrove forests and seagrass meadows that support an extraordinary diversity of marine life. The bay is a key foraging ground for bottlenose and humpback dolphins, and spinner dolphins are regularly spotted from the shore or on early-morning boat excursions. The nearby Chwaka village is one of the oldest Swahili settlements on the island, with ruins dating back several centuries.
