Overview
Kalambo Falls on the border of Tanzania and Zambia is one of the highest uninterrupted waterfalls in Africa, where the Kalambo River plunges 221 metres in a single sheer drop into a forested gorge beside Lake Tanganyika. The area surrounding the falls is also one of the most significant archaeological sites in Africa, with evidence of human habitation and use of fire dating back over 400,000 years discovered in the gorge sediments. The combination of dramatic scenery and deep prehistory makes Kalambo one of Tanzania's most extraordinary yet rarely visited destinations.
