About Ol Doinyo Lengai

Ol Doinyo Lengai ("Mountain of God" in Maa) is an active stratovolcano in the eastern Rift Valley near Lake Natron. It is the only volcano in the world that erupts natrocarbonatite — a cold, black lava that turns white on contact with air and moisture. The summit trek is a demanding overnight climb rewarded with views over Lake Natron and the Rift Valley. The mountain is sacred to the Maasai people.
