Overview
Empakai Crater in the Ngorongoro Highlands is a deep, forested crater containing a beautiful soda lake frequented by flamingos and other waterbirds. The crater rim walk offers panoramic views over the Rift Valley and, on clear days, across to Ol Doinyo Lengai and Lake Natron. Empakai is part of the multi-day Crater Highlands walking route that also passes through Olmoti Crater.
