Overview
Mount Hanang is a dormant volcanic peak rising to 3,417 metres in Tanzania's Manyara Region, the fourth-highest mountain in the country and a striking landmark visible from the Rift Valley floor. The mountain is sacred to the Barabaig pastoralists who have herded livestock around its base for centuries, and ascending its forested slopes offers a rewarding off-the-beaten-path alternative to Kilimanjaro. The summit provides extraordinary views across Lake Basotu, the crater highlands, and the sweeping savannah of northern Tanzania.
