Overview
The Ndutu Plains at the southern boundary of the Serengeti ecosystem are among the most wildlife-rich areas in Africa during the calving season from January to March, when up to half a million wildebeest calves are born within a three-week period. The short grass plains surrounding Lake Ndutu attract extraordinary concentrations of predators — lion prides, cheetah coalitions, hyena clans, and wild dog packs — drawn by the abundance of vulnerable newborns. The setting, with its acacia-fringed lake and open savannah, is one of the most beautiful in East Africa.
