Overview
Formerly known as Selous Game Reserve, Nyerere National Park is Africa's largest national park and one of the largest protected areas on earth at over 30,000 km². The park is bisected by the Rufiji River — East Africa's largest river system — and is famous for its boat safaris, which offer intimate wildlife viewing from the water. Wild dog, elephant, lion, hippo, crocodile and buffalo thrive here in almost total solitude; visitor numbers are far lower than the northern circuit parks.
